Autopsy Observations & Job Shadowing Opportunities
At Jennifer Hammers Pathology, we recognize the importance of real-world experience for those working or studying in medical, forensic, and emergency services fields. We proudly offer autopsy observation and job shadowing opportunities for students, healthcare professionals, and first responders who are eager to expand their knowledge and understanding of medicolegal death investigation. Please note that Jennifer Hammers Pathology works independently of the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy shadow does not include a job shadow with a county coroner.

How to Apply:
All individuals interested in observing an autopsy must complete the Internship/Job Shadow Application available on the Westmoreland County Coroner's Office website. Be sure to fully complete the application and clearly indicate your interest in an autopsy observation with Jennifer Hammers Pathology in the additional requirements field.
Once your application is submitted, it will be forwarded to our team for review. Following approval, we will contact you to coordinate the next steps, including scheduling and additional documentation.
Important Information:
Additional paperwork will be required for entry into the autopsy suite. These documents will be provided after your initial application is reviewed.
Due to the sensitive nature of our work, confidentiality agreements are strictly enforced, and no recording or photography will be allowed.
Autopsy scheduling is dependent on case volume. While we aim to provide at least 48 hours' notice, in most cases you will receive approximately 24 hours’ notice of when you are needed onsite.
We are committed to offering an educational and professional experience while maintaining the highest standards of respect and confidentiality for the decedents and their families.
