Jennifer Hammers, D.O.
Dr. Jennifer Hammers is a Board-Certified Anatomic, Clinical, and Forensic Pathologist recognized for her dedication to advancing forensic pathology through high-quality autopsy services, education, and research. She serves as the Pathologist for several Western Pennsylvania county coroner offices, providing essential expertise in autopsy services.
Dr. Hammers began her career at the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office, where she completed specialized training in forensic pathology. She went on to serve as a medical examiner in both New York City and Boston, gaining extensive experience in diverse and complex cases. In 2017, she relocated to Pittsburgh and worked alongside Dr. Cyril H. Wecht. In 2022, she began to work full-time for Jennifer Hammers Pathology LLC, a private pathology practice based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a mission to deliver exceptional pathology services while fostering the next generation of forensic pathologists. She also serves as a medicolegal consultant for attorneys and families, providing expert evaluations and consultations in complex cases.
In addition to her practice, Dr. Hammers is deeply committed to education. She teaches Forensic Pathology and Forensic Anatomy in Duquesne University’s Master of Forensic Science and Law Program and provides hands-on training to students and professionals. Her research interests include cardiac pathology, complex injury identification and interpretation, and various other forensic topics.
Dr. Hammers is passionate about connecting with and growing the forensic pathology community and remains dedicated to training and mentoring future forensic scientists and pathologists to advance the discipline. Additionally, Dr. Hammers leverages her interests in business, education, and health as the owner of three local boutique Pilates studios and one rowing studio, where the tenets of her osteopathic medicine training align with the fitness environments.
When she is not working or pursuing educational endeavors, she spends time with her husband Greg, family, and friends. Their dogs are a special part of the family, with Frenchies Ivy Mae, Tootsie, and Pinkie Malinkie keeping them entertained and busy. Whether it’s attending a local theater production, enjoying live music, or trying a new hobby, she is always finding a new adventure!
